Chandigarh: Students at Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali held protests after a girl allegedly leaked private videos of her hostel mates online. Police have registered a case and the accused girl has been arrested.

- The police and the university administration have rubbished social media posts claiming that several girls attempted to die by suicide after their videos leaked. ADGP Gurpreet Kaur Deo said that a police team has left for Shimla to arrest the boy who the accused girl allegedly sent the videos to.
- “So far in our investigation, we have found out that there is only one video of the accused herself. She has not recorded any other video of anyone else. Electronic devices and mobile phones have been taken into custody and will be sent for forensic examination,” Mohali police chief Vivek Soni said, news agency ANI reported.
- Mr Soni said no deaths or suicide attempts have been reported and appealed to people to not believe rumours. “One student who was taken in an ambulance was suffering from anxiety and our team is in contact with her,” he said.
- In a statement released by Chandigarh University, Pro-Chancellor Dr. RS Bawa said, “The rumor which is circulating through media that 60 objectionable MMS have been found of students … is totally false and baseless. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the University, there have been no videos found of any student which are objectionable except a personal video shot by a girl which was shared by herself to her boyfriend.”
